EXCLUSIVE COLLABORATION WITH MAURITSON WINES

OUR STORIES

Much like Mirbeau, Mauritson Wines is family-owned and operated. Since 1868, the Mauritson family has been growing grapes in the Dry Creek Valley. Their great-great-great grandfather S.P. Hallengren, a grape-growing pioneer in the Rockpile region, planted his first vines in 1884 and shipped every ounce of his wine back to Sweden.

While our founders, Linda & Gary Dower, were bringing the very first Mirbeau Inn & Spa to life in Skaneateles, Clay Mauritson was working on his own family's legacy. Clay was determined to add winemaking to the family operation, and in 1998 Clay was ready to release the inaugural Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Both the Mirbeau families and Mauritson families took a fresh look at the potential for growth in their respective regions and planted more roots — Mauritson currently manages 310 vineyard acres spread across Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Rockpile Appellations while Mirbeau has expanded to a total of 4 resort properties across the Northeast with 5th Mirbeau Inn & Spa set to open in December 2025.

In the Spring of 2022, Mirbeau's vision for our own custom wine became reality when the Mirbeau family traveled to Sonoma to finally meet with Clay and Mauritson’s Winemaker, Emma Kudritzky Hall. Together, after days of blending wines and perfecting these custom combinations, they completed the very first bottling of our Mirbeau Wines.

These classically balanced blends are the result of a special collaboration between our two families. We are proud of our unified vision to offer two Sonoma County wines to be enjoyed exclusively while visiting a Mirbeau Inn & Spa resort. We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we enjoyed creating it. Santé!

2021 MIRBEAU

MÉLANGE RED WINE

background & tasting notes

The backbone of our 2021 Mirbeau Mélange Red Wine is Zinfandel grown in the world-renowned Rockpile appellation. Grown at nearly 1,000 feet elevation with shallow soil and limited access to water, the 2021 vintage carries all of the signature aromas expected from Zinfandel grown in Rockpile: candied Santa Rosa plum, crushed violet candy, cocoa shavings, dried coastal underbrush, warm baking spices, and graphite. The entry is silky, and the texture is fine-grained and velvety with lingering flavors of ripe red fruits and sweet loam.

pairings

The Mélange Red is a medium to full bodied wine that will complement many styles of heartier food items such as steaks and chops. The wine can also be enjoyed with fine cheese or as sipping wine while relaxing by one of our many fireplaces.

MONET ROSÉ WINE

background & tasting notes

Our 2022 Mirbeau Monet Rosé was made by whole-cluster pressing 100 percent Zinfandel, a practice that produces lightly pigmented and delicate wines. The Rosé juice was also fermented entirely in stainless steel and has not gone through malolactic fermentation, preserving the bright, fresh, natural malic acid in the grapes. This elegant and energetic Rosé has a light rose-copper tint with scents of wild strawberry, red pear flesh, and crumbled slate, punctuated by traces of chamomile blossom. Bone dry, the fleshy core of delicate red fruits is balanced by racy acidity.

pairings

The Monet Rosé is perfect as both a stand-alone aperitif while relaxing in the gardens as well as a complement to lighter foods such as salads and light seafood.
